Blue-Sky Ideas

Part of the fun of monthly Friends meetings is the opportunity to suggest "far out" ideas for improving the park.  Some of them are wildly impractical (the zip line from the tower to the library, for example), while others (the White Elephant Give-Away) turn out to be winners.

Here's our current crop of blue-sky ideas:

  • a hilltop observation deck
  • a hiking trail to Tobin Park and the Salado Creek Greenway - recent discussions with Parks and Rec confirm that the lower half of this trail, from Lady Bird Johnson Park to Kallison Park to Tobin Park is already funded and should open in 2027.
  • Extend the park to Stahl Road.  There exists a thing called the Rolling Oaks Regional Center Plan, and the Friends have participated in the planning team, since the Park is in the southern corner of the planning region.  Their latest report includes the incorporation of the undeveloped property on Stahl Road adjacent to the Park on the north.  Check out slides 38 and 39 of the report.
